This past Tuesday, Arizona Republic columnist Laurie Roberts called Vernon Parker (current Mayor of Paradise Valley) the "most intriguing candidate running for governor." Roberts' article was extremely well-written, and it did justice to Mayor Parker's past and rise to prominence.
I've had the privilege of meeting and working with Vernon Parker. In 2006, I was a lowly intern for Len Munsil's gubernatorial campaign, and Mr. Parker was the campaign's spokesman. He made a point to talk to me every chance he had (there weren't a lot of chances because he was rarely in the campaign offices), and he made me feel extremely welcome in his presence. While that isn't a sufficient qualification for candidacy for Governor of the state of Arizona, it definitely will pay dividends on the campaign trail for Vernon Parker. I suspect that many of the people he meets on a daily basis will be captured by his engaging personality.
Arizona needs a Governor who displays conservative principles through all the issues facing our great state. While Governor Jan Brewer has many conservative stands that should be applauded, she is single-handedly destroying the credibility of the Republican-led legislature - quite possibly putting state government up for grabs in the next election. Vernon Parker would provide solid conservative leadership, and I think that the relationship between the Governor's office and legislature would become more fluent under a Parker administration.
