Saturday's Arizona Republic was on the old illegal immigration warpath again.
In the story "Gordon: Raids giving Arizona bad rap," writer Scott Wong followed the Arizona Republic's longstanding tradition of explaining the illegal immigration side of the story from the officials who support the illegal immigrants.
Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon stated on Friday that he was told by several people that "due to profiling and other civil-rights abuses by the Maricopa County sheriff, Arizona is getting the same reputation as Alabama had in the 1950s."
I think it's comforting that the Mayor of the largest Arizona city really works hard to get all his facts straight. It's comforting that he relies on information given to him by other people.
Nonsense!
This is just another instance where Democrats are allowed to say whatever they want to say, well because they have no one to stop them. Phil Gordon's comments follow his trip to Washington DC, where he was no doubt emboldened by all the love showered on illegal immigrants. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi has showered the most affection on illegal immigrants lately, saying at an earlier March rally in San Francisco that those illegals attending the rally were "patriotic," and that those who supported the enforcement of illegal immigration subscribed to an "un-American value system."
This type of rhetoric - both by Mayor Gordon and Speaker Pelosi - needs to cease. It's time for the Americans who lead this country (and this state) to fall in line with what a large block of their constituency believes - enforce the existing illegal immigration laws.
